ESPN 8--THE OCHO

I am an occassional insomniac.

I have come to terms with this.

It's the reason that I have read so many books and seen so many movies.

The other night, in spite of having had a hectic week and weekend, I had one of these crazy cases of insomnia.  It was midnight and usually by that time I'm out like a light, but for some reason I was wide awake.  I didn't have any book around to read, so I hunted through my DVD's (the small collection that I have) and picked out Dodgeball.

I freaking love that movie.  I can't help it.  Ben Stiller is ridiculously frightening and hilarious and Vince Vaughn...well...he's Vince Vaughn.  I have a mini crush on him.  Not because he's particularly attractive, but because you know he'd be a good, albeit drunken, time.

I think my favorite thing about the movie are the sports commentators from ESPN 8: The Ocho.

Cotton McKnight: Looks like it's going to be a two-on-one, menage trois of pain.
Pepper Brooks: Usually you pay double for that kind of action Cotton.

High-larious!

I think the reason they crack me up so much is because they're not too far from reality.  Jeez, on the few occasions that I do watch sports on tv I hate, hate, hate having to sit through the desk commentary of 3 or 4 guys every 5 minutes.  If I'm watching a game, it's to watch the game, not to see the ugly mugs of these men.

I mean I do enjoy it every so often, but not when I'm seeing someone talking about the game more than the I'm seeing the actual game.

Does this bother anyone else?

Cotton McKnight: I'm being told that Average Joe's does not have enough players and will be forfeiting the championship match.
Pepper Brooks: It's a bold strategy, Cotton.  Let's see if it pays off for them.

P.S. Wouldn't it be great if there really was an ESPN 8: The Ocho?

Unless there already is...

and I'm just dumb...

hey whatever I don't have cable!

  1. Man, I've never had insomnia. I have the opposite. I hate waking up and could sleep all day if I didn't have anything to do. I woke up at 2pm today, and I'm probably going to go to bed around 11pm, and it won't take me long to fall asleep. I hope. I have to wake up at 5am tomorrow, so. And Dodgeball is amazing! That movie cracked me up. I was actually talking about it the other night, what a coincidence!

  3. Sometimes I wish I could get insomnia because I would get so much stuff done. But I don't really get anything done, because I'm always tired.
